For many children, Three-Year-Old kinder is their first experience of spending time away from home and family. We offer a richly supportive, happy and safe environment for this transition. Research shows that two years of quality kindergarten are better than one. For more information visit www.vic.gov.au/kinder
Beginning kindergarten is a special milestone, often a child’s first learning environment away from their family. At North Brighton Kindergarten, we place the highest importance on building warm, secure relationships with each child, so they feel safe, supported, and ready to explore. We recognise that every child is deeply connected to their family network, and we draw on this understanding—guided by Bronfenbrenner’s Social Learning Theory—to see the child as part of a wider world of relationships.
Inspired by Loris Malaguzzi’s belief in the “100 languages of children”, we value and respect the many different ways children express themselves. By taking time to truly understand each child and meeting them where they are on their learning journey, we nurture their sense of identity, belonging, and agency.
A key focus of our program is supporting children to develop strong learning dispositions—such as curiosity, creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, and persistence—that will empower them as 21st-century learners. We also prioritise the development of self-regulation skills, helping children to understand, name, and manage their emotions using stories, colour, and discussion. This builds their capacity for empathy, assertiveness, and making safe choices in age-appropriate ways, fostering empowerment and respect for themselves and others.
Through play, children explore, experiment, and develop an understanding of their place in the world. Play provides rich opportunities for children to practice social and academic skills, supporting their growth as confident, capable learners both now and in the future.
Our program also connects children with the broader community, helping them build a sense of place and contribution. We are committed to embedding First Nations culture, perspetives and practice within our teaching pedagogy, ensuring children are introduced to Australia’s First Nations history through meaningful experiences that foster respect, curiosity, and understanding.
